Tanglewood free essay sample
There are thirteen strategic staffing decisions that should be identified and examined when developing a staffing plan. A change to any of these decisions can completely alter the entire staffing plan. Tanglewood department stores are a unique brand based upon how operations are handled, especially in relation to human resources and staffing. With the rate of Tanglewoodââ¬â¢s expansion it is critically important to align all human resources policies and practices, especially those on staffing. Acquire and Develop Talent-Most operations use a ââ¬Å"pure staffing strategyâ⬠which basically means focusing on quality and not quantity. Tanglewood should not adopt this strategy at this time. With the acquisition of stores, the focus should be on training and development to have a uniformed style of employee. This means that when staffing plans are developed they should look for candidates who are willing to learn about the company, the customers and develop skills to meet the requirements of the company. Lag or Lead System -Tanglewood should implement and operate with the lead system. Tanglewood has no option here as people have already been acquired from the previous mergers. External or Internal Hiring-For corporate and management positions it is recommend that Tanglewood use internal hiring. This allows new managers to use their tanglewood experience to their advantage in their new role. This also works well due to our acquisitions because there may be operating procedures by the individual stores that would be beneficial to the entire company. For entry level positions, it will be necessary to hire externally. Core of flexible workforce-With the industry being retail, there will be a need to have both core and flexible workers. Core workers provided stability and help keep training costs down while for seasonal purposes flexible workers allow Tanglewood to operate effectively. Hire or Retain- Retaining employees allows Tanglewood to expand and grow because there will be experienced personnel more readily available. There must also be an effort on external recruitment to recruit talent and new personnel who may have exceptional experience with another retail outlet. National or Global- National staffing plan should be in plan; globalization leads to increased recruiting costs and has no benefit to the company. Attract or Relocate- The effort to relocate should be made, if this is unable to occur due to lack of internal candidates whom are eligible, then attracting new candidates would be necessary. Understaff or Overstaff- Tanglewood should overstaff employees with the current expansion in place. In a retail environment there will be call offs, early outs and no shows. Having staff allows tanglewood to move associates to other departments and call associates in with short notice. Hire or Acquire- There is no option as Tanglewood has recently acquired many employees. Person/Job or Person/Organization match- This should be implemented to assure new hires are able to blend into company culture and ensure customer satisfaction. Tanglewood free essay sample 1. Free Essays on An Event A Book Or Movie That Affected My Life
Is there really such a thing as an event, movie or a book that could really change or affect somebodyââ¬â¢s life? The answer will definetly be yes! My story began five years ago from a simple blood test I had to do. Being a volleyball player like all the other athletes i had to carry with me a health ID card to every game. To publish that ID card I had to go through a series of tests to confirm that I was healthy, in which one was the blood testing. I then discovered that my blood type was rhesus O negative and that was impossible since my parents were both rhesus A positive. I knew from my biology class that a chance for a child of both parents with blood type Rhesus A to have a Rhesus O was one in a billion. Could I have been that one in a billion child? I started asking questions to my parents but the answers I was getting werenââ¬â¢t satisfactory. So I decided to look and find for my birth certificate. After days of research I finally found it at the private clinic I was born. Until then it was no surprise to me that my parents werenââ¬â¢t really my birth parents. I ââ¬Ëve been adopted at the age of one month. It my sound crazy that I wasnââ¬â¢t surprise but I knew that something was wrong since I got my blood test results. At that point I had to search for my birth parents! It wasnââ¬â¢t very hard finding them since my real parents were very near by. My godmother and my godfather! My adopted parents explained to me that due to a health problem they couldnââ¬â¢t have kids. My ââ¬Å"mumâ⬠was desperate for a child so her best friend, my godmother, decided to give to her the next baby she would give birth to. And that was me! Now how my life changed? Write a Book That Hollywood Will Love (in 5 Steps)
Write a Book That Hollywood Will Love (in 5 Steps) What It Takes to Write a Book that Becomes a Movie Brooke Maddaford, Reedsy editor and former editor at a Big 5 publishing house, shares her tips on what your book needs to be made into a movie, based on her experience editing A Futile and Stupid Gesture: How Doug Kenney and ââ¬Å"National Lampoonâ⬠Changed Comedy Forever, which was recently adapted into a Netflix Original Movie. The concept of art being derivative is not new. Hollywood loves making movies based on best-selling books because the audience is built in and the story already works. The film is almost guaranteed to have loyal fans who read the book and are excited to see the adaption, so producers donââ¬â¢t have to agonize about ticket sales.Four of the top five highest-grossing film franchises have literary origins. Forty-seven of the eighty-nine films that have won the Oscar for Best Picture were based on a book, novella, or short story. Thatââ¬â¢s over fifty percent! But not every good book is adapted into a film. Why is that?Josh Karp was wise to write a bio graphy about National Lampoon because his story spotlights a comedic empire built by famous eccentrics; pretty stellar biographical material already. But it wasnââ¬â¢t the just the brilliant personalities or counterculture backdrop that attracted Netflix. It was how the author swirled together his plot, characters, and setting - and his well-crafted writing - that produced a book with the qualities that Hollywood seeks. (This is a great resource that talks more about ââ¬Å"Show, Donââ¬â¢t Tell.â⬠)Step 5: Donââ¬â¢t Write a Screenplay Masquerading as a BookMy greatest recommendation is this: if you want to write a book, write a book, and if you want to see your story told through film, write a screenplay. Donââ¬â¢t write a screenplay masquerading as a book. à à Although both authors and screenwriters are storytellers, a book is a fundamentally different medium than a movie. If youââ¬â¢re uncertain about if you should write a screenplay or a book, ask yourself these questions:Can my story be told in two hours or less? (If so, a screenplay may be best.)Does my story involve a lot of narration or internal dialogue? (If so, write a book.)Do I want my writing to be followed by another robust creative process to translate it to film? (If so, go with a screenplay.)When I think of my story, do I see people reading it or watching it?What does my story want to be? How does it want to be tol d?There are no right or wrong answers to these questions - itââ¬â¢s important to follow your intuition. My advice? Write what you know. And enjoy the process! If you have any thoughts or questions on writing a film-worthy book, drop a message in the comments below.

International relations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
International relations - Essay Example Further, the customs and the heterogeneity of the indigenous populations within each national territory as defined by the physical boundaries have concentrated on minding the issues of their own territories, as opposed to focusing on integration of the region. Thus, despite the region having a higher potential for contributing and even influencing the global geopolitical and economic system, the disconnected territories have retained their cultural, political and economic developments within their individual territories (Severino, 2009). Nevertheless, it cannot be argued that the region lacks inter-countries interaction completely. There has existed some interaction among the different areas of the South East Asia, although the interaction has been such minimal as to significantly alter the preservation of the individual cultures of these nations. Consequently, the idea of the formation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was one major stride towards bringing this r egion into a common economic bloc, which would then be able to negotiate its political and economic space in the global geopolitical and economic system (Lee, 2006). There is no doubt that the region could be highly influential on the global platform if it could be united under one umbrella, which would act as its vehicle of international negotiations. However, the preservation of strong individual culture among the nations of the South East Asia region has played a major role in hindering the formation of the regional economic bloc. The competing interests purely based on the uniqueness of the individual culture of each nation has meant that creating a regional bloc that would integrate the South East Asian countries of Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (Basu, 2013). The ASEAN was first established on 8 August 1967, when the five countries came together and signed the Bangkok declaration, which founded ASEAN as a loose organization (Lee,

Final section of this essay consists of two main parts such as identifying effects that a conflict can have on an organization and most suitable leader ship approach for handling such conflicts. Conclusion of the essay will include summary remarks of the entire personal experience. While discussing on various aspects of group formation I have used many sources such as consulting my colleagues, going through notes in my diary and even thinking on my personal reflections. I have not highlighted specifically my sources of data and have followed a narrative approach so as to ensure that readers can relate closely with reality. The model portrayed by Tuckman in context of group development briefly outlines four important stages. I shall describe my personal experience which has a strong correlation with the four stages of group development. The model has been elaborated further in figure1. As per figure1, forming stage can be described as one during which bond is established amongst team members. Team members tend to be highly dependent on

Child Abuse and Neglect Essay -- Violence Against Children
Every day, about five children in the United States are murdered by a parent or caretaker. In 2014, more than 3 million reports of child abuse were made in the United States involving more than 6 million children. Child abuse kills more children in America than does accidental falls, choking on food, suffocation, or fires in the home (Newton). As if these statistics werenââ¬â¢t horrifying enough, they are inaccurate in relaying the actual number of children that have fallen victim to child abuse in the United States. The sad reality is child abuse is severely under-reported in the United States. Most abused and neglected children never come to the attention of government officials. Victims almost never speak of their abuse for fear of retaliation from their perpetrator (Newton). Even if the abuse has been reported, the victim will often deny the offense took place. This is especially prevalent in cases of abuse, in which the victim shows no physical injury (Thompson). The main reason children do not speak of their abuse or just flatly deny that their abuse had occurred is due to their lack of comfort within the situation. It is very uncomfortable for a child to accuse a parent or caretaker of abuse or neglect. The child can also feel an intense amount of shame and can become very withdrawn and secretive, in regards to their abuse. It is much easier for the child to take the abuse and allow their cries to go unanswered. The most common pattern of abuse is a child vic...

Problem & Solution in Time Management Essay
Time management is a way in which a person can set a diurnal schedule and keep their events and dates in order, and accomplished in a timely fashion.à The daily schedule of any person who has multiple responsibilities is very tight. Choices of scheduling can be dominated by scholastics, family, personal time, and career responsibilities.à With a limited number of hours in each week, a person must make due how one can as Tracy states, Perhaps the greatest single problem that people have today is ââ¬Å"time poverty.â⬠Working people have too much to do and too little time for their personal lives. Most people feel overwhelmed with responsibilities and activities, and the harder they work, the further behind they feel. This sense of being on a never-ending treadmill can cause you to fall into the reactive/responsive mode of living. Instead of clearly deciding what you want to do, you continually react to what is happening around you. Pretty soon you lose all sense of control. You feel that your life is running you, rather than you running your life (Tracy paragraph one). Without premeditation and a set schedule that should be adhered to every day procrastination can be the daunting factor in a time frame reference.à Once the framework of a schedule is procured it must be adhered to not only every day but also every week.à Thus a personal daily schedule can be obtained and followed, and a diurnal routine can be established.à Time enough for everyday tasks must be included in such a routine. A personal schedule must be similar each day so that a routine can become habit.à Such a routine should consist of personal hygiene in the morning and before going to bed, regular meals and the entire days obligations which can include exercise, school, work or family events, not to forget personal time, and time for reflection (Time Management Guide paragraph five). Managing time can also be difficult when the weekend is considered a different avenue for scheduling than are the weekdays.à It is during this time that leisure and relaxation are in order unless a previous commitment to a job is required.à Time management on the weekends is very important because it allows for a person to unwind from physical and emotional stresses of the week. Daily routines, that is, time management, should maximize a personââ¬â¢s ability to achieve daily success out of necessity.à The efficacy of a daily schedule and adhering to that schedule can limit unwarranted breaks and wasted time such as back and forth trips to town when one trip is all that should be needed.à Also, on the note of procrastination, a daily schedule allows a person to more effectively control where they place their time and gives certain allotted amounts of time to specific tasks such as cooking, tv watching, or internet use.à The obligations of life in general can sometimes become daunting, but with problem time management, the dayââ¬â¢s priorities are accomplished and the next dayââ¬â¢s priorities are sure to follow suit (Pavlina paragraph two). Due to procrastination being such a difficult thing to overcome, managing time wisely doesnââ¬â¢t only allow for work to be accomplished but also sets aside time for rumination, family, and this in turn lowers a personââ¬â¢s stress rate because they wonââ¬â¢t feel as though they are spreading their selves thin and can rest at the end of the day because that dayââ¬â¢s tasks were accomplished. People would rather spend their time away from work or academics leisurely and time management allows them to do this, as Torres (2005) states in In Good Time, ââ¬Å"To get any system to succeed, youââ¬â¢ll have to make an effortââ¬âwhether itââ¬â¢s organizing your incoming e-mails and voice mails or clearing out your inbox into to-do files. All that takes undivided attention, notes Clark. He suggests using a bulk of time in the beginning of your day (say from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) to organize and plan your schedule. Let everyone in your office know youââ¬â¢re unavailable during that time. ââ¬Å"After a while, when [people] see youââ¬â¢re really efficient, theyââ¬â¢ll start respecting that [unavailable time window].â⬠â⬠(Torres) Everyone probably would like to spend less time at work; especially jobs which require overtime and work at home projects.à Although in such jobs a person is rewarded monetarily, they are also compromising their personal time.à Unrealistic job goals such as working eighty hours in one week donââ¬â¢t bode well for personal venues and family time.à Thus a set scheduled time allowable for after hours work would greatly benefit a person. à The goal in managing time is not only to permit for work but also to know when too much work is being done, as Torres states, ââ¬Å"Divide your list into action items by order of importance and the time itââ¬â¢ll take to complete each task, says Clark. If you look at something in your e-mail inbox, ask yourself, ââ¬Å"Can I complete this task in two minutes?â⬠If so, do it, because it will take you longer than two minutes to file it. If not, take that time to file it and put it on your calendar.â⬠(Torres) Managing time wisely can lead to a more fulfilling lifestyle; such aspects of this lifestyle include more time to devout to ones health such as working out, and nutritional watch.à The ability to attend a gym regularly is very much dependent on managing time.à Certain set dates must be put into practice and these in turn must be considered in respect to other pressing obligations, as Tracy states, Personal time management begins with you. It begins with your thinking through what is really important to you in life. And it only makes sense if you organize it around specific things that you want to accomplish. You need to set goals in three major areas of your life. First, you need family and personal goals. These are the reasons why you get up in the morning, why you work hard and upgrade your skills, why you worry about money and sometimes feel frustrated by the demands on your time. (Tracy paragraph six). A strong factor in time management is the ability of a person to dedicate a half hour to one hour segments to working out, and this can only be done through proper time management as Kallen (1999) states in Just Say Now,à ââ¬Å"This kind of procrastination is no big deal if it happens only once in a while ââ¬â but if it becomes a regular occurrence, it can seriously interfere with your workout goals. How do you keep an occasional bout of laziness from gradually pulling you toward the outskirts of couch-potato-land? We asked procrastination experts for some timely advice on the matter. Put the strategies they describe to work, and do it nowâ⬠(Kallan)à Kallen also states that , ââ¬Å"Chronic procrastinators tend to have high levels of anxiety, and Worrying about YOur workouts will just add to the pressure.à When you dwell on the sessions youââ¬â¢ve missed, exercise can start to seem like an odious chore. Instead, concentrate on enjoying your next Workout more than the last. Think about the ââ¬Å"highâ⬠youââ¬â¢ll get when endorphins flood Your body, or anticipate the feeling of accomplishment youââ¬â¢ll have when youââ¬â¢ve gotten one step closer to your goal.â⬠(Kallen). The article Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow is actually a synopsis of the book ââ¬Å"Is About Time: The 6 Styles of Procrastination and How to Overcome Themâ⬠by Linda Sapadin, PhD.à The first style is dreamers.à These are people who live a dream world and want a pain-free life with no rules.à Their solution is to ground themselves in the present.à Worriers are procrastinators who fear risk or change.à They should focus on the possibilities of each new situation to overcome procrastination.à Defiers resent authority, albeit covertly.à They do not follow through with their promises, which gives them a sense of power.à à The solution for them is to realize that true power lies in action (Sapadin). à à à à à à à à à à à Those procrastinators who create drama by waiting until the last minute are labeled crisis-makers.à They must increase their motivation thereby decreasing the emotional damage caused by waiting until the last minute in order to change.à Perfectionist are those who fear not measuring up, thus procrastinating is a way for them to put off judgment.à They should focus on the realistic and allow themselves to err occasionally and realize that life goes on.à Overdoers are procrastinators who try to do it all without any balance in their lives.à They need to learn to say no.à In summary, the article states to stop trying to do everything, but to do what you can. The article Putting An End to Putting it Off identifies underlying issues in procrastinating and gives steps in dealing with each one. The first source of procrastination is that of fear.à Becoming aware of this fear can help the procrastinator to dissolve it. Counteract the fear with remembrances of past successes.à à Turn a weakness into a strength.à Another source is perfectionism. They fear they wonââ¬â¢t measure up to their own standards. Perfectionists need to examine their values and recognize whose they are; their own or someone elseââ¬â¢s, and to reset their goals accordingly.à Crisis making, yet another source, envelope those who thrive on deadlines and feel they canââ¬â¢t get motivated until the last minute.à They need to bring balance to their lives and increase their productivity and quality of work.à Another source of procrastination is expectation anxiety.à à à This person needs to accept themselves.à Overextending.à Those who overextend need to recognize what is most important and set goals.à They should under-promise and over-deliver. à à à à à à à à à à à There are steps one can take in overcoming procrastination once the source is recognized.à They should schedule tasks by prioritizing a list.à Do a task daily and then reward themselves.à Taking action is another step (Chapman paragraph one).à This can be accomplished by visualizing they are not a procrastinator.à They should do an unwanted task for a least ten minutes and then decide to continue or not.à Procrastinators do well to be held accountable to a friend when lagging on a project.à Journaling is also a useful tool.à Here one can stroke their own ego for accomplishments, record mistakes to learn from, and write oneââ¬â¢s frustrations. The article Beating the Big Put-Off begins by defining procrastination as the epidemic that can even cause an early death because people put off seeing their doctor.à The author continues by offering strategies to combat procrastination.à First, a person must understand what is wrong with procrastination (i.e. it stunts professional and personal growth).à The author then goes on to say that a person should stop procrastinating immediately.à Donââ¬â¢t allow any excuses.à He quotes a Middle Eastern proverb ââ¬Å"Do today what you want to postpone till tomorrowâ⬠.à (Parachin) à à à à à à à à à Realistic goal setting will bring more success than setting your sights too high.à One should also expect difficulties along the way as change is a challenge.à à One must keep moving ahead.à Procrastinators need to prioritize responsibilities and objectives (Bates paragraph two).à Sharing their commitment to overcoming procrastination with a friend who will be supportive is a great aid. One should visualize their goals as completed. For this, the author gives a three-point plan: ââ¬Å" visualize the steps needed to complete the task, see yourself carrying out those steps, and picture yourself with the end product in handâ⬠(Parachin).à Rewarding themselves will help the procrastinator to continue.à The author concludes by stating that it is never too late to break the procrastination habit and a person will by happier by doing this.à Once procrastination is broken, and the once procrastinator follows these time management rules from dedicating segments to time to self, family, work, etc. then procrastination and not having time become problems in the past tense.
